Ragnarok: Tactics

Ragnarok Tactics

Yesterday, Ragnarok Tactics, a spin off of the ever so popular Ragnarok Online has been officially released!

Developed by GungHo Online Entertainment, the same folks behind the MMORPG, and localized by lovable people at Aksys Games. While it plays more on the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics, it still bears many elements from its online MMO counterpart when it comes to setting and gameplay mechanics.

The player is a member of the third main faction of the game, a small band of do-gooders known as the Toren Militia. Initially out on a mission to exterminate the monsters that have been plaguing the area around where they lived, the player’s character becomes involved in the turmoil and political intrigue that eventually throws the world back into chaos. Depending on whom you ally with or the conversation choices you make, you will achieve one of five different endings.

Like many tactical RPGs, it plays on a grid system where the player must move characters strategically to cause damage to the opposing party, with the end goal usually to defeat the opposing side. Though this has a massive emphasis on customization; with characters’ genders, statistics, skills, equipment all being customizable. Stated before, the game allows you to choose between three different factions and you must make choices with their own set of rewards and consequences. Strangely enough, you do not need to play the game over to see the different endings, but the game allows you to go back to crucial points in the game and go towards a different path.

The game is available at retail in physical form for $29.99, or you can download it digitally on the PlayStation Network for $24.99. The game was also announced that it can be played on the PlayStation Vita.
