While we here at Operation Rainfall love covering the latest in gaming news and sharing our reviews of titles new and classic, we also just enjoy playing games in our downtime. So with that, sit back, relax, and check out what the oprainfall gaming crew have been up to this week!
It’s been a very long time since we’ve put out one of these articles. Despite still hanging onto my ancient OG Switch and slim PS4 for as long as possible, I did get my hands on quite a few game reviews this year. Speaking of my aging consoles though, I’m not hanging onto them out of choice. I simply haven’t had the means to pickup one of the forever increasing in price, newer consoles. And once PlayStation goes digital only, well I don’t have much interest in a digital only PlayStation after the PS5 becomes obsolete. Not to mention, I certainly wouldn’t have the means for whatever ridiculous price that costs either. I know we’re all guessing it’ll be a thousand bucks or more.
Anyway, yes I did manage to review quite a few things this year. Yakuza Kiwami 3, Homura: The Crimson Warriors, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and most recently, Over RequiemZ. I’m counting on one more otome review to happen this year, later in Fall hopefully. And I also am going to try to get my hands on one specific RPG, only that one’s not a for sure thing. But I am quite grateful, that at least some stuff is still landing on the OG Switch, even though I know it’s not the ideal, strongest platform for the multi-platform titles.
Seeing as I’m missing out on a lot of new games however, I find myself with more time to visit my backlog. My backlog is full of, well more partially played games than completely untouched ones. But, I’ve ended up with a lot more time to revisit all those games I’m always saying I want to go back to someday. Currently, the latest old game I’ve decided to revisit, is Fire Emblem: Three Houses. With the launch date of the new, Switch 2 exclusive Fire Emblem coming up, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and it being connected to the Three Houses universe, I find myself full of that missing out feeling. Fortunately, I previously only completed one single route in Three Houses and earlier this year I also picked up the Warriors spinoff, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Since I loved the story of Three Houses and the new game is coming out soon, I figured it was the perfect time to distract myself by going back and at least doing some of the routes I left untouched in Three Houses. I don’t know that I can fully 100% the rest of the game in one go before getting burnt out, but it’s been enough years I’m still having fun revisiting it.
I last left off in Three Houses having just barely gotten into the Black Eagles route. I got burnt out pretty early on talking to every single character every single game month, after each story event. This time around, I completely started over and I’m yet again talking to every single character, simply because it’s already somehow been 7 years since it came out. I’m considering this my refresher run. After this route, I plan to do the DLC side story next and then in the Golden Deer route and the final route after that, I plan to try and treat it like an otome and will actually skip all that repeat dialogue prior to the time skip. I’m hoping that will make it easier to avoid burning out this time around. So far, I’m all the way up to the start of the chapter where you go with Jeralt to Remire. I’ve stuck with Casual because I have zero interest in losing people to permadeath, but I did up the difficulty to Hard to accommodate for all the options available in new game plus that make things easier.
I’m finding it difficult to decide who to marry this time around. The first time I played the game, I did the Blue Lions route and I was completely satisfied with Dimitri and didn’t regret my choice at all, I loved him. So now that he’s just majorly important to the overall story, but not a character who can be recruited to the other classes, I’ll have to settle for someone else. I don’t really like any of the options in the Black Eagles class. I could maybe see Caspar or Ferdinand being the most likely for me to pick. Yet I’m still not sure and find myself also considering old Blue Lions characters I was able to recruit, like Sylvain, or Felix. Who knows. Going forward, I’m mostly looking forward to getting closer to the time skip and finally seeing all the new story content I’ve avoided major spoilers on for all these years. – Jenae
