Tales of Arise | oprainfall gaming

While we here at Operation Rainfall love covering the latest in gaming news and sharing our reviews of titles new and classic, we also just enjoy playing games in our downtime. So with that, sit back, relax, and check out what the oprainfall gaming crew have been up to this week!

I’ve been a pretty busy gamer over the past couple of weeks. I had couple of reviews go out last week for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon☆Breath and Mamono Musume: Spider & Harpy & Cyclops. I had a great time with both of these titles, but I spent the majority of week finally getting around to Tales of Arise. I needed a bit of a palette cleanser after the bittersweet taste the amazing Xenoblade 3 left in my mouth and I thought this would do the trick. I was a little worried going into that it may not actually feel like a “Tales of” title with the art style and gameplay changes, but those fears were quickly dispelled. Alphen and Shionne are both amazing characters and I’m very interested to see how the rest of this story plays out. Rinwell is probably my favorite of the crew so far. Her interactions with Law are just golden and usually give me a good chuckle. She’s pretty cute as well, especially since I used a mod to give her Edna’s costume from Tales of Zesteria. With all that I can safely say I’m having a great time with Tales of Arise so far, we’ll see how I feel about it in the end shortly. – Steve

FFXIV Island Sanctuary | oprainfall gaming

It’s Island Sanctuary time! Like with our Anime of the Week article, I didn’t have a lot of time for gaming, but I definitely jumped into Final Fantasy XIV for Patch 6.2 content, including Island Sanctuary. I’ve never been one for farm simulators, but I admit I’m enjoying the laid-back nature of tending to my little farm. I keep some animals, grow some crops, build granaries and workshops, and forage for supplies out in the wild. It’s a nice de-stresser. The only other game like this I’ve ever spent any real amount of time with was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I like it. We also had the Rising event, and I’m now walking around with my absolutely adorably hideous Solus minion (seen above). I love him so much. He makes me so happy. As always, the story was great, and getting to see more of the Thirteenth has been an absolute treat. I’m also super in love with our new story NPC. The new Pandaemonium raid was also a lot of fun, though I will not be joining the world first Savage raiders. Good luck to them!

Other than FFXIV, I did manage to sneak into the Splatoon 3 Splatfest this Saturday, and that was a lot of fun, since I played with family. I was on the woefully inept Scissors team who got absolutely curb stomped, but who cares, it was fun. There wasn’t a lot different from Splatoon 2 here, and I did not take part in the Tri-Color event, so I can’t really speak to how that changed up the formula. It was just good, solid, splatting fun for a couple hours, and you can’t really go wrong with that. – Leah
