Atlus Japan have announced that they have teamed up with Spike Chunsoft again to release a sequel to the 2015 roguelike RPG Etrian Mystery Dungeon exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. Titled Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, it will be releasing in Japan on 31st August on 6,480 yen with standard and limited physical options available, as well as a first print bonus.
The first print bonus will be a 2-disc soundtrack CD with selected tracks from the Etrian Odyssey series as voted for by fans over Twitter. You can cast your vote here. The CD will be in a jacket illustrated by Yuuji Himukai. The limited edition will be an “Etrian Odyssey 10th Anniversary Box” that will release for 9,800 yen. The LE’s main attraction is the special artbook that will contain special character artwork from across all the games in the Etrian Odyssey series. It also includes a copy of the game and special packaging.
A story synposis was also released. You can read this below.
At the bottom of the Yggdrasil Tree there is said to be an entrance to the “Land of the Gods”—.
One day, you, an adventurer who visited the lakeside town that looks out on this legendary Yggdrasil Tree, meet a mysterious girl.
“I want to go to the base of the Yggdrasil Tree no matter what it takes.”
Just who is this girl? Why does she want to go to the Yggdrasil Tree? Frequently clear “mystery dungeons” and, together with the girl, head for the distant Yggdrasil Tree!
First details on the classes were revealed. All of the classes from the original Etrian Mystery Dungeon will be appearing in this game, but five more (Pirate, Alchemist, Kenkaku, Monk and Farmer) have also been added, meaning there are 15 classes in total in this new entry. Furthermore, a 10th Anniversary livestream broadcast for the Etrian Odyssey series will be streamed via Niconico on 20th May at 19:30 JST. More information on this broadcast will be released nearer the time.
Finally, a trailer and website have both been released for the upcoming title. You can watch the trailer below, as well as look at some gameplay footage, courtesy of Nintendo Everything.
