Nobuhiro Watsuki, the author of Rurouni Kenshin is currently working on a spin-off manga. Rurouni Kenshin Ibun: Ashitarō Zenka Ari (The Tale in Rurouni Kenshin – Ashitaro’s Criminal Record) will be focused on a character named Ashitaro Hasegawa. In it Ashitaro is just getting released from prison when he meets an odd girl who has been waiting for him. It was mentioned that the new character will end up meeting Kenshin and the others at some point.
