Ubisoft announced that the cast of indie platformer Shovel Knight are coming to the free-to-play fighter Brawlhalla. However, rather than being full-fledged fighters unto themselves, they’ll be incorporated as alternate skins for existing ones, though they’ll have their own sound effects and selection animations. That includes skins for Shovel, King, Specter, Plague, and Black Knight.

This marks the latest of many cameos from Shovel Knight in another developers’ games. This year has been particularly busy, with guest roles in Blade Strangers, Indie Pogo, and the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where the knight himself will be an Assist Trophy. Similarly, Ubisoft, who now owns Brawlhalla developer Big Mammoth Games, recently announced Rayman as an upcoming playable character.

No release date on when Shovel Knight‘s cast of characters will make it into Brawlhalla was given, but more details are forthcoming. The fighting game itself is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 6th, which seems like a good guess for the release of these new skins. Our own Oprainfall review gave Brawlhalla a solid recommendation late last year.
