Shovel Knight has been announced as a playable fighter for the crossover fighter Blade Strangers. The indie favorite from Yacht Club Games naturally fights with his trusty shovel, joining a roster of characters chiefly from Nicalis-published works. Other characters in the star-crossed fighting game include Gunvolt from Inti Creates’ Azure Striker Gunvolt, Quote from Cave Story, and Isaac from The Binding of Isaac.

Ahead of the game’s release this summer, Nicalis has also showcased the game’s snazzy anime introductory video, showing off the game’s breadth of Nicalis characters and the newly-announced Shovel Knight himself.

Shovel Knight is no stranger to cameo appearances in other publisher’s works. Since the release of his titular 2014 platformer, he’s been spotted in Yooka-Laylee, Runbow, Runner 3, and much more.

Blade Strangers launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC this summer. Nicalis will also be releasing the equally crossover-happy puzzle fighter Crystal Crisis this fall, with special guests Astro Boy and Black Jack from Tezuka Productions.
