Phoenix and Kokone

As a fan of the Ace Attorney series, I’m sure I’m not the only one getting antsy for more news on Phoenix Wright’s next adventure. It’s been a while since Capcom has said anything new about the game, but finally some news has cropped up that will get fans excited… in Japan.

In a post by Capcom about an upcoming Nico Nico Q&A session, the company accidentally let slip that Ace Attorney 5 will be coming to store shelves on July 25 in Japan. Capcom was quick to remove the post, but not before this screenshot of the announcement was taken:

Ace Attorney 5 Release Date Announcement

Ace Attorney 5 sees the return of Phoenix Wright in the starring role, after he stepped aside to give Apollo Justice his own game in 2007. Both Phoenix and Apollo will be returning in the new game, with assistance from a new sidekick, Kokone Kizuki, as well as a new gameplay mechanic called the “Heart Scope.” The Heart Scope allows players to monitor the emotions of witnesses, and attempt to find contradictions between what a witness is saying and what they are feeling as they say it.

With a Japanese release in just a few months, western audiences can only hope that an English release is just around the corner as well. After all, fans outside of Japan haven’t seen a new Ace Attorney game since 2010, after Capcom passed on releasing Ace Attorney Investigations 2 in other languages. In the end, we can take comfort in the fact that Ace Attorney 5 will be coming west eventually, and hope that we’ll be getting more localization news soon.
