Fire Emblem Past 002

We at oprainfall rarely venture into stories that involve mostly speculation…or things becoming lost in translation…but when one of our Staff saw this a few hours ago, I figured it was worth spending a little time on. I’ve enlisted our two translators, Jodie and Will, to try to make sense out of what’s being reported here.

Intelligent Systems filed trademarks related to “Fire Emblem” and “EMBLEM” respectively on June 24th. These trademarks, meant for “use in home games/toys and media related to home games/toys”, were granted just a short time ago today, July 18th.

Fire Emblem Japanese Trademark 001

002

No one’s quite sure what any of this could mean. Remember recently, when the Legend of Dragoon trademark was renewed, then Dart was revealed as cancelled DLC for PlayStation All-Stars? It could be something like that. It could be a new game in the franchise, or something related to the Virtual Console, or… a toy or figure of some kind. A story like this is so incredibly vague that the possibilities of what it could be are endless.

Fire Emblem Awakening Featured 001

I know a lot of you are huge Fire Emblem fans though, just like me. The amount of hours I’ve put into Awakening since its February release are downright scary. My Fire Emblem-related endeavors are honestly…pretty terrifying. But alas, here at oprainfall, I’m not alone. So I figured you’d all enjoy this game of speculation as much as I am.

What is this trademark revealing, exactly? Has the global success of Awakening paved the way for more Fire Emblem games/content in the future? Is this related to properties we already know about, like DLC for Awakening or something related to Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem? And more importantly…if it is a new game or property related to the franchise we love…how loud must we “clamor for it” here in the West?

Be sure to share your thoughts with us.
