During the September 3rd, 2026 State of Play, a new trailer revealed that Fate/EXTRA Record, the remake of the 2010 PlayStation Portable title, Fate/EXTRA, will launch worldwide on January 28, 2027. The news comes shortly after the game’s publisher and development changes. XSEED Games will publish the game on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch in the Americas. Aniplex will publish the game on PC via Steam worldwide. According to its Steam page, the game supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese text with Japanese voiceovers.
After the State of Play, extended release date trailers were released on the XSEED Games and TYPE-MOON GAMES YouTube channels. The trailers slightly differ at the end with XSEED’s showing the Physical Limited Edition while TYPE-MOON GAME’s English trailer showed the Digital Deluxe Edition. The Japanese TYPE-MOON GAMES trailer showcased the pre-order/early purchase bonus and two more Special Editions exclusive to Japan. You can check out all three trailers below.

Fate/EXTRA Record will be available both physically and digitally in the Americas. For physical editions, there is both a standard and Limited Edition. The standard edition costs $59.99 on PS5 and Switch while the Switch 2 version costs $69.99. For those wondering, the Nintendo Switch 2 release is a standard game card which means the game is fully on the cartridge. The Limited Edition will cost $89.99 (PS5, Switch) and $99.99 (Switch 2) respectively. There is no physical PlayStation 4 release.
The Limited Edition comes with the following:
- Copy of the game (PS5, Switch, Switch 2) with custom outer box
- SteelBook containing a 3-disc soundtrack
- A 100-page art book featuring original and concept art
Physical editions are currently available to pre-order through the Marvelous USA Online Store and select retailers.
For those interest in the digital edition, the contents of the Digital Deluxe Edition include the game, a digital soundtrack and art book, Fate/EXTRA Arranged BGM Pack, and the “Servant and Player Special Outfits Bundle (Beach Style Set, Night Style Set, Festival Style Set)” cosmetic DLC. The standard digital edition costs $59.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99. Digital pre-orders are not open yet, but you can currently wishlist the game on PlayStation Store (PS4, PS5) and Steam.
In Europe, the standard physical edition will cost 59.99€ and the Limited Edition will cost 89.99€. Marvelous Europe’s Limited Edition contents are the same as XSEED Game’s Limited Edition. However, unlike XSEED Games’ release, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is a Game-Key Card in Europe. The standard digital edition costs 59.99€ while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs 79.99€.
In Japan, the game has a similar Limited Edition as the one XSEED Games is releasing in the Americas. It also features a 3-disc soundtrack with SteelBook and an art book. But, Japan has two more physical editions on top of the Limited Edition: the Special Edition and Super Special Edition. These two editions are exclusive to the TYPE-MOON Official Online Store (hosted by Aniplex). Both editions add items on top of the Limited Edition. It should also be noted that unlike XSEED Games’ physical release, the Nintendo Switch 2 version in Japan is a Game-Key Card.
The Special Edition costs ¥27,830 and comes with the following:

- Special LP featuring background music from the game as well as arranged versions of music from the original Fate/EXTRA
- Multi-layer acrylic block and background card set

After humanity discovered a supercomputer hidden on the moon, everything changed. Known as the Moon Cell Automaton, this powerful computer created SE.RA.PH, a digital world where 128 combatants are pitted against each other for the ultimate prize, the Holy Grail. An omnipotent wish-granting device, the Holy Grail is capable of fulfilling any desire. Now in the role of Masters, these combatants form contracts with Servants, digital beings embodying historical figures and heroes, hoping to be the final victor in this life-or-death battle. Hero (VA: Atsushi Abe and Yui Ishikawa)
The protagonist of the story. A 2nd-year student of Tsukumihara Academy who has lost their memories and has no idea who they are. Despite this, they are forced to participate in the brutal battles of the Holy Grail War.
Saber (VA: Sakura Tange)
One of the Servants the protagonist can make a contract with. Her small frame belies her unbelievable skill as a swordswoman. With her high combat capability, she’s fit to bear the name “Saber.” While she may come across as arrogant, she harbors a secret love of all things beautiful.
Archer (VA: Junichi Suwabe)
One of the Servants the protagonist can make a contract with. A warrior capable of using a variety of weapons. Even though he specializes in ranged and thrown weapons and can be sarcastic at times, he is very efficient in his tasks and will immediately follow orders.
Caster (VA: Chiwa Saito)
One of the Servants the protagonist can make a contract with. A unique sorceress whose standout features include her fox ears and tail. She may be snarky, but she’s very loyal to her Master’s orders. She has exceptional knowledge and excels at tactical combat.
Rin Tohsaka (VA: Kana Ueda)
Works for the Earth’s resistance force and is an excellent hacker known the world over. Despite her strict demeanor, she has a caring personality and is worried about the amnesiac protagonist.
Rani VIII (VA: Asami Sanada)
A young Egyptian woman who specializes in astrology. She is unexpressive and rarely shows emotion, but for some reason she shows interest in the protagonist.
Father Kotomine (VA: Jouji Nakata)
The cold-blooded director of the Holy Grail War. He’s an NPC created by the Holy Grail and is based on a person who was involved in a previous Holy Grail War.
Taiga Fujimura (VA: Miki Ito)
An instructor at Tsukumihara Academy and the protagonist’s homeroom teacher. Accomplishing her tasks can earn you various interior decorations. She’s an NPC based on a person who was involved in a previous Holy Grail War.
Sakura Matou (VA: Noriko Shitaya)
The school nurse. Supports Masters with an item once per round. She’s an NPC based on a person who was involved in a previous Holy Grail War.
Ciel (VA: Kaede Hondo)
An NPC who dresses like a nun and loves curry. She’s in charge of the shop and exchanges items for PPT, which can be obtained from defeating enemies and clearing quests.
Lewis (VA: Kana Hanazawa)
An irregular presence going by the name Lewis. She’s not a participant in or manager of the war. She can only be seen by the protagonist and will enhance Commands through a ritual called Art Phantasmagoria.
