I am far, far behind in publishing these columns. As I cover GDC this week in San Francisco, I am making a concentrated effort to try to finish writing at least a couple of these back-logged Animal Crossing: New Horizons columns as I go.
I am also thinking about switching the focus of this series over to Pokémon Pokopia. It just came out, and it looks like it is a game in the same vein as Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
What are your thoughts on that?

Today, I bought another throwback rocket. I am not quite sure why those have been popping up so much in Animal Crossing: New Horizons these past few months, but I picked it up. I then immediately turned around and gifted it to Goose on the plaza. He was thrilled (who wouldn’t be if they were given a free rocket?), and he said he would set it out the next time he decorated his home. In return, Goose gave me a…mod parka. I don’t know why my islanders think I want all this second-hand clothing from them all the time. It is a little weird.
Otherwise, I visited the Nook Shopping kiosk, and I bought an arched tile path permit. I want to have more options when I am building pathways on my island, and it seemed the right choice for 2,000 Nook Miles.
Finally, I showed Celeste some Aquarius fragments I had previously collected. In return, she told me a story about a man named Ganymede that Zeus spotted and convinced to serve as a cupbearer on Mount Olympus. It was a depressing story, for sure, but a lot of myths are like that. However, Celeste clearly seems to live for the drama, and she also gave me a DIY recipe for a star head!

The very first thing I did today was stumble across a money tree I had previously planted and was now fully grown. I naturally shook down the money, chopped the tree down, and finally dug out the stump.
It was a good thing I went money hunting, because Saharah was in town! I bought a mysterious flooring and mysterious wallpaper from her, and then I turned around and bought rugs from her for more tickets that I turned into a second mysterious flooring purchase. I always want something unique from her, and I wish I could pick out what I wanted for an obscene amount of tickets.
If only…

Saturday night can only mean one thing: K.K. Slider is in town, and he is putting on a Valentine’s Day show in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unfortunately, this game doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day as an in-game event beyond some items that can be shipped to your home from Nook Shopping.
Despite that, I still let him pick what he wanted to play tonight for me, Tybalt, Gayle, and Hugh, and he picked To The Edge. I surprisingly really liked this one, even though I had gotten the song at some point beforehand and it was already registered to my record player.
If you haven’t heard it before, you should definitely give it a spin!

If you haven’t attended a show by K.K. Slider before, then you should know he gives you a bootleg version of the song after the show. Last night, I got a copy of To The Edge. I ended up giving my bootleg to Tybalt today, and he was thrilled about it. He was also there at the concert with me last night, and so I am a little surprised K.K. Slider didn’t give him a copy, too. In return, I got a purple camo wall. I am going to almost certainly sell that. Or regift it.
I also ran into Resetti today while he was walking around on my island! He offered to reset things for me, but I don’t need him to do that, yet. I really wish he could just reset all the flowers on the island for me, too, as that would solve the problem I refuse to deal with myself because it takes up a lot of time for me to pull and toss plants.
Finally, I harvested my crops, and I sold them to Nook’s Cranny. I need to be trying to save up as much money as I can, when I can, to pay off that mortgage someday.

Today is Festivale, and I had pretty much forgotten about it until RIGHT NOW.
I went hard into the event last year, and there unfortunately weren’t new items for me to collect during this year’s event. I still visited to talk to Pavé, who has a lot of energy for super late at night, and I was convinced to go out and collect rainbow feathers. I ended up catching one, giving it to Pavé, and getting a Festivale garland in return. Of course, that went immediately on my door and it will remain there until I find something else to switch it out for!

Today is the start of Lunar New Year, according to Isabelle in her daily announcements! I am curious what they are going to do in game (if anything) for it.
I first picked up a silver confetti blower from Nook’s Cranny for 6,960 Bells, and I intend to set it up in the gym area by the boxing ring. Redd was also in town on his boat, and so I stopped by and picked up the Quaint Painting he had for sale. I have never seen the original Vermeer painting in Amsterdam, but I definitely want to someday!
Finally, I dug up some more crops and sold them off (along with other odds and ends) to Nook’s Cranny on my second trip of the day for 9,240 Bells.

Today, I finally visited the new hotel on my Animal Crossing: New Horizons island.
Inside, I ran into Tom Nook, and he introduced me to Cap’n’s extended family. There is a LOT of extended family here and they are all helping to run the new hotel!
My job here is kind of like what it is on the vacation island: I am helping to design hotel rooms for visitors to enjoy. Leilani (one of Cap’n’s family members) told me she wants to design each room differently for people to enjoy, and I am totally on board with making that request happen.
For the first room I designed, she wanted me to make it into something with a seaside atmosphere. I was glad for my vacation home experience already, because I knew what to do and how to do it. Sooner rather than later, I had a yellow and blue and wood themed room all designed up and ready for a guest to stay in! And that turned out to be a good thing, because the first guest — Simon — turned up immediately to go stay in the newly furnished room.
Afterwards, Leilani gave me 200 tickets in pay and told me I can spend them at Grams’s souvenir shop. I looked at the wares she had for sale, and I elected to hold onto them for now.
I wonder what room themes that the hotel is going to want me to create in the coming weeks…
What do you think of the new hotel on the island?
What room themes have you decorated?
