When I tried to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons this week, I was incredibly sick after coming back from Canada. Not just a little bit sick, but really sick. I ended up just working, playing a little bit of this game, and going to bed, and repeat. So, if it seems like this week was quite bare for what I did in game…then…well…yeah. It is, and I was quite surprised that I didn’t miss a day somewhere in this.
I’m finally just getting caught up on this column, too.
If you missed last time’s Tom Nook’s Snapshots, you can check it out here.

It turns out that being sick isn’t just a one- or two-day thing, but it can last a while.
Today, there were a ton of shooting stars in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I absolutely wished on as many of them as possible that I would recover quickly.
I hope it works.

Sometimes, it really is all about the money, and I am definitely not as good of a fellow islander as I could be.
I went around until I found my daily money rock, I found a fully-grown money tree, and I then deposited a cool 100,000 Bells into my bank account. I am going to eventually have enough cash to just pay off my home loan all at once but today won’t be that day.
I stopped into Goose’s home and saw he was really sick. Unfortunately, I do not have any medicine on hand, and Nook’s Cranny was closed for the day so I could not go buy some medicine and bring it back to him. I have never felt so guilty playing this game before as I did right then and there. Especially since I am sick in real life, and Goose was, too.
Finally, I collected star fragments from the beaches, and a message in a bottle that contained a DIY recipe for an iron garden bench.
February 7

I played Animal Crossing, New Horizons today for just a few minutes.
It was Saturday, and yet I couldn’t get it together enough to stick around for K.K. Slider’s concert. I instead popped into the game, and…that was it. I saved and turned off my Nintendo Switch 2 and went back to bed.
(Not an exciting week so far, I know.)
February 8

It isn’t often that I spend a lot of time in Nook’s Cranny. At the very least, I drop by, see that I don’t want anything, and I go about my business.
Today, though? I bought up TWO items. I saw the train set for 9,480 Bells, and it actually looked like a cool western themed toy that was better than the one that they had for Toy Day 2025. I bought that. I then looked to my left and I saw a large magazine rack, and I knew I had to buy it too for 4,440 Bells. I don’t know where I will put either of these, but I now have them!
Afterwards, I checked out the beach, and I got a DIY recipe for cool hyacinth crown from a message in a bottle. I don’t know why so many people throw messages into bottles with recipes in them, but I guess it is a common thing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons…
February 9

Today, I got a camper! It has been a little bit since I got one, and her name was Marcie. She is a kangaroo, has a smaller roo in her pouch, and that ‘roo didn’t share his or her name. I was a little sad about that. We talked some, but I honestly just wasn’t feeling like I wanted her to stay on Renassia.
Afterwards, I visited Cephalobot in his home. Not only does he like to do kung fu movies in his basement where no one can hear him scream in pain, he is also a chef! This time around, he made pear jelly and he was wielding a skillet as he did so. I’ve made jam before, and I can definitely attest to the difficulty that goes into making it. Anyway, Cephalobot was also super kind, and he gave me a copy of the recipe so I could make some myself!
February 10

Today, I just went shopping.
I bought a whole flower display case from Nook’s Cranny. I am not sure what I will do with it (as it seems to be whenever I buy random things), but I will find a use for it eventually! I also stopped by Kicks out on the town plaza, and he sold me a foldover-top backpack for 1,300 Bells. I stopped into Able Sisters, and I picked up a hanten jacket, too.
After my buying spree, I headed into the Roost and I picked up a cup of coffee from Brewster. 200 Bells for a cup of coffee seems steep, especially after everything else I bought, but I can afford it somehow!
February 11

I started off the day by learning a DIY for pear jelly and then selling a bunch of stuff off to Timmy and Tommy for 16,296 Bells. I had depleted almost all of my money the day before, and so I needed to raise new funds somehow. And yes, I was hauling that DIY recipe around for a few days before I finally used it. I am that sick, after all.
I was still feeling somewhat sick by this point, and so I called it a day (and a week, I guess?) there in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How do you handle being sick?
Do you still play Animal Crossing: New Horizons even when you’re not feeling well?
