Catching a barred knifejaw feature image.

This was a very long week spending time with family before heading to Pittsburgh to see the U.S. Open golf tournament and wondering how Mario would have done across 72 holes at the Oakmont Country Club.

I didn’t want to adjust my console’s time, since I think that would mess with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and so I found myself playing at times of day that didn’t quite match what it was like in real life outside. I was also genuinely tired most of the time after walking the golf course or being with family, and so this is definitely a lighter week in Tom Nook’s Snapshots than other weeks.

That is the nicest thing about this game, though. You can really play it as much or as little as you want and still feel like you accomplished something every day.

If you missed last week’s Tom Nook’s Snapshots, you can check it out here.

Animal Crossing | Finding a DIY on the beach.

Gulliver washed up on my shores today, and so I spent quite a bit of time wondering the beaches to try to find him. Before I encountered him on the western side of the island, I first found a bottle with a note inside! I learned a DIY recipe for a modern wood wall, which is pretty cool. I then planted a money tree, too.

When I found Gulliver, he talked a lot about weighing anchors, checking its blood pressure, and asking who its provider was. Clearly, being washed out to the ocean so often is quite delusional for him. I helped him find his communicator parts once again so he could be on his way!

Animal Crossing | Punchy comes to visit and talks about chips inside the tent.

I bought new bags from Kicks and convinced Goose to stay, but more importantly, I discovered Punchy the cat as he visited my island on a camping trip.

I dislike Punchy. It’s not the catchphrase of “mrmpht”, which sounds weird when you say it. It’s not even the fact that Punchy wants to move to an island like mine someday, but not exactly like mine.

It’s the weird chip collection. I like chips, sure. But I don’t go around hauling a million different types of chips around while holding a doughnut in my hand. That’s just weird.

Punchy is weird and not in a pleasant way.

Animal Crossing | Paying 60,000 Bells towards my home loan.

I was honestly worn out today from the golf tournament.

I spent my time in game today trying to earn Bells before putting 60,000 Bells down on my home loan. I had Blathers identify fossils that I then sold, I found the daily money rock, and I even chopped down a money tree. I need more space, and so I am going to prioritize getting that paid off before I do anymore bridges or inclines on my island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons | K.K. Slider sings in the plaza.

Another day of the USOPEN down, and it turned out to be an extremely chill night in Renassia.

As I fired up Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I found myself greeted in the plaza by Hugh, Goose, Lulu, and Cephalobot as we all listened to K.K. Slider sing K.K. Groove in the rain. It matched real life perfectly since…well…it rained in real life that day, too.

It was honestly hard to not fall asleep listening to it, but it really was the perfect way to cap off my Saturday night as I headed into Championship Sunday.

Animal Crossing | Banging the money rock.

It poured again today on the golf course. This led to a serious rain delay, and I ended up not getting back to my hotel room until incredibly late.

By the time I started playing Animal Crossing: New Horizon today, all I really did was find the money rock and end my day.

Becky teaching me the sighing reaction.

Today, Becky taught me the sighing reaction! She was really good at it too. I should use it when the weight of the world is simply too much to bear, or when someone buys the last pair of designer shoes in my size RIGHT from under me.

Other than that, I knocked down a couple more money trees and the put another 90,000 Bells towards my home loan.

It also continued to rain in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Is it supposed to rain this much in game?

Donating the Barred knifejaw fish to Blathers.

Celeste came to town again tonight, and she gave me another DIY recipe. It’s always fun running into her.

Other than that, I found the money rock and plunked down another 50,000 Bells towards my home loan. I now owe just 318,000 Bells left!

Finally, I caught a barred knifejaw. It’s a zebra-striped fish, and I came up instantly with a barred-knifejaw carpaccio recipe. That…is super weird, honestly. I donated the fish to Blathers, and he told me that it is also known as a striped beakfish and that they are great at avoiding being caught on hooks!

It continually surprises me how the bugs and fish just rotate throughout the year, and there is always something new to catch whenever I play.

What did you accomplish this week in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

What do you like to do when you only have a short time to play?
