Sega is closing in on successfully emulating Sega Dreamcast software on Nintendo Switch. In an interview with Famitsu, producer Naoki Horii says that the Switch can almost perfectly emulate the 128-bit console’s games thanks to having the source code still around. The company is having a question of whether to remake or port these titles to the hybrid system, with a leaning towards emulation.
While no confirmation of a proper release, the Sega Ages re-release line has seen fan demand for games from both the Saturn and Dreamcast. Sega has previously re-released select Dreamcast games on consoles as HD ports with slight changes, such as Sonic Adventure HD being a port of the GameCube release from 2003.
Previously in response to potential Dreamcast, Sega took the “wait and see” approach. With this Famitsu interview, the reality of the console’s games being playable on Switch is more possible than before.
