News of a trademark for “Valkyria of the Blue Revolution” has just come to light. The trademark was apparently filed by “SEGA Games”, the name of the division of SEGA that focuses on dedicated gaming platforms (as opposed to SEGA Networks, which focuses on mobile gaming.)
I think we can safely say this is related to Valkyria Chronicles, the fan-favorite strategy RPG series that began in 2008. In Japan, the series is known as “Senjou no Valkyria” (sometimes shortened to SenVal) which translates to “Valkyria of the Battlefield”. If the name “Valkyria” wasn’t already a giveaway, the similarity in phrase structure between the trademark’s transliteration “Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria” and “Senjou no Valkyria” should be enough to clue you in. That, and SEGA being the trademark applicant.
The last we’ve heard of the Valkyria Chronicles came from the PC port of the first game, which as of September of 2015 has sold somewhere around 500k according to SteamSpy. It was a well-regarded port by most critics and fans, and even received a balancing mod by the name of “Gallian Crossfire“.
After the first Valkyria Chronicles game was developed for PlayStation 3, the next two titles moved to PlayStation Portable. Valkyria Chronicles III is still not localized for audiences outside of Japan as of yet.
But what sort of title is “Valkyria of the Blue Revolution” going to be? It’s not a numbered Valkyria Chronicles game, that’s for sure…
