While I was at Anaheim for FINAL FANTASY XIV FAN FESTIVAL 2026, I made time to stop by the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ collaboration café that was happening near the Anaheim Convention Center, and I sampled two of the drinks and one of the desserts. This collaboration, running between April 17 and May 17, 2026, is being held at the queer-owned Requiem Cafe at 280 South Clementine Street, Anaheim, California, 92805 during business hours (Monday-Thursday 12 PM to 10 PM, Friday/Saturday 12 PM to 11 PM, Sunday 12 PM to 9 PM). So, what did I think in this FINAL FANTASY XIV Online third-space? Read on to find out!

The first thing, and arguably the most important thing, is this: the staff at the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ event were incredible. They answered all the questions I had about the menu, they were going around to make sure the tables were clean, and they were very cheerful. What really impressed me was that in the time it took me to order a drink and a dessert and pay, the items were already waiting for me at the pick-up counter. I was honestly expecting it to take much longer than that with how busy the café was. There was also a stamp rally that was set to start that weekend, but I unfortunately did not get to participate in it.

The vibes at FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ were really quite great, too. There were cardboard cutouts (similar to the ones you’ve seen at PAX East if you went in 2024 during the Dawntrail announcement days), and you could take photos with your favorite Scions of the Seventh Dawn. There was also a television playing a lot of A Realm Reborn story content on it, and a lot of Masayoshi Soken’s music playing in the background, too. Outside of the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ touches, the permanent tables and chairs and nooks all had a very real fantasy vibe, and it just felt cozy to hang out in. There was even a small library section with Yoshitaka Amano’s The Sky book people could grab and peruse!

There is a lot of varied seating -ranging from stools to couches to chairs- throughout Requiem Cafe, and a library you can borrow from while there! (Photos by author).

When you finished with your drinks and snacks, you then could head over to the small shopping area in the room through the doorway at FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ. In the back was a set of computers, one of which had FINAL FANTASY XIV Online’s launcher installed on it, but you couldn’t actually play the game. Also, in what I think was a clear homage to the noteboard in the Eorzea Café locations in Japan, you could decorate a post-it note and stick it on the wall with all the other post-it notes made by other Warriors of Light. There were so many notes written and drawn upon by others, that it all really fits into the community as a whole.

Of course, there is a lot of merchandise. I felt the T-shirts and hoodies and was surprised at how they both felt like they were decent quality merchandise. I do not know if they would hold up through a few wash cycles, but they aren’t the terrible quality print jobs you sometimes see online. The other merchandise, such as the key chains and standees and whatnot, did feel a little cheap to the touch, but they are clearly meant more for decorative purposes than to be used in day-to-day life. Thankfully, you can just buy everything you want online and have it shipped (eventually) to your home from here. There are also some merchandise items from the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ collaboration that are locked into being sold only online, unfortunately, and I don’t care for that.

All of these items were available for sale in the merchandise room of Requiem Cafe, or can be bought online. (Photos by author).

If you’ve gotten this far into my review, then you’ve undoubtedly noticed that I have not talked about the drinks or the food much beyond the speed of service. And that is because, unfortunately, they are the weakest part by far of the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ collaboration.

I tried two drinks: the Warrior of Light and the Dark Decades, and I ate the Good King Moogle Mog’s Dessert Cup. The Warrior of Light drink is a butterfly pea tea topped with a toasted marshmallow cold foam and “edible crystals” (think rock candy). There is also a copious amount of ice mixed into it as well. Based upon the picture on the menu, I was expecting a somewhat thick, creamy drink. Instead, I was surprised to find it was a very sweet, thin, vanillaesque beverage that had a tea flavor to it. When I later tried Dark Decades (pomegranate tea lemonade with fruit popping pearls), I was expecting a more savory boba-like drink, but it was instead another incredibly sweet drink. The Good King Moogle Mog’s Dessert Cup was vanilla ice cream topped with a cool plastic crown and a red velvet cake pop. That was — you guessed it — also very sweet.

Looking over the entire menu designed specifically for FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ, I purposefully picked two drinks that did not look like they would be pure liquid sweetness, and I was surprised to find that they in fact were. This is a disappointment, as I was hoping for more of a flavor and textile complexity than I ultimately got. Talking with my editor, who also attended, several of the other drinks on the menu she tried were also completely sweet, and her Korpokkur Kid Matcha Tiramisu was still frozen in the middle. This is unfortunate due to the prices being charged for these food items, and I really wish there was more variety in palate, texture, and complexity. I would unfortunately not recommend coming here for the FINAL FANTASY XIV X REQUIEM CAFÉ drinks themselves, but for the atmosphere, the merchandise, and the kind employees.

My review stars is going to be split into three ratings here, for that reason. The first rating is for the food/drink experience, the second star is going to be solely for everything else, and my third star is the overall rating – but it is not an average.
