The Legend of Nayuta isn’t the best looking game, but for a remastered PSP game, it looks clean. The character models are expressive, though a bit clunky in movement at times. I appreciated how each continent looked different from the other, and it was interesting to see how the changing seasons affected each environment. I liked the designs of each of the main cast, Remnant Isle residents, and continent Administrators. They all had their unique flare to them. I personally liked Noi, Creha’s, and Erislette’s designs the most. Noi is a cutie, and I’m sucker for the cool, mysterious look Creha has. Eris has that icy aesthetic going on which I find very cool. A nice touch they added was how the shopkeepers interacted with you as you perused their wares or bought something. You could see their 3D models reacting to what you did, and didn’t, do while shopping. For example, Ada would act pretty flirtatiously, showing her cleavage to you if you were about to buy something. Another nice touch they added was that equipment changes your appearance! I love it when games do this, and it was cool to see the new equipment I received on Nayuta’s model. You can also have Noi wear other cute outfits too, much to delight of Sasha. The enemy designs were hit and miss. There weren’t many memorable designs for the normal monsters, but I did like the designs of each Sacred Guardian, those were pretty unique. Overall, the game’s graphics are pretty solid, considering this is a remaster.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails | Quest Mistranslation

The localization quality is pretty good overall. There were a few spelling mistakes and a couple missing words, but nothing too crazy on that front. I did run into an instance where I believe the quest description was mistranslated. This quest asks you to gather three sets of ingredients for a chef, and one of these ingredients is called Fresh Red Meat. However, there is no Fresh Red Meat item in the game, the closest item name to that is Fresh Red Fish. This may confuse some players, making them think that they don’t have all the needed items when they actually do. I know I only realized I had all of them by just talking to the chef, to test my theory that the description was mistranslated. Other than that, there weren’t any other major issues. I appreciated, and was surprised, finding out that the game featured dual audio. I played the game with English voices, and while only some of the scenes were voiced, I think all the voice actors involved did a great job giving life to these characters.

The PC version ran very smoothly with no stutter. I was able to easily run it at 4K and consistent 60 fps throughout my whole playthrough. There weren’t many graphics options for this port, but that’s not a huge issue as most rigs should be able to run this game pretty easily. Of course, the high speed function is a huge plus, and a very welcome addition. It was very helpful when traversing through Remnant Isle and while waiting for slow moving platforms.

It took me a little over 28 hours to complete the main story and after story of The Legend of Nayuta on Normal difficulty. This while trying to complete as many stage objectives as possible and doing the optional handyman requests. It’s a pretty short adventure, when compared to other Trails games, but it was enjoyable. After finishing the game you can do New Game+ on a higher difficulty, and a Time Attack mode is added, so there is more to do for the completionists out there.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails | Fin

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a straightforward adventure with action gameplay that isn’t too complicated. While not as epic story wise as other Trails games, and not as challenging an action game as those in the Ys series, I think it’s still worth going through this journey with Nayuta. It’s easy to get into for newcomers and veteran fans alike, and the great cast of characters and outstanding music will charm many players. If you’re looking for a fun action RPG that won’t eat a lot of your time, then look no further than Boundless Trails.
