Azur Lane: Crosswave just got a new website update, featuring new screenshots and details on new features in the upcoming Nintendo Switch version. First of all, Taihou and Formidable (formerly DLC in the Steam/PS4 versions), are included as playable characters on the Switch! Both of them also come with three support characters and extra story content. The press release also touts an updated Photo Mode with new extended camera angles, and the ability to pose up to six characters instead of three.

Azur Lane: Crosswave is already available in physical & digital formats on PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe, as well as on Steam. The upcoming Nintendo Switch version is set to launch sometime in February 2021. You can find out more at the official website. If you’re interested in the limited edition (Steam/PS4), you can check it out here. As for that brand new batch of screenshots, you’ll find them just below.

The Sakura Empire

The Sakura Empire is a nation made up of islands to the east, which are full of cherry blossoms. They have created their own unique culture that stands apart from other nations. Combat technology of the empire uses the East’s mystery as its power source. Their fighting style exemplifies this by embodying the Eastern miracle, Mizuho’s Mystery, like divination and communicating with the dead. Mizuho’s Mystery can also be seen in the physical characteristics of the Empire’s citizens themselves. The people here believe in the existence of Yaoyorozu-no-Kami and the miko, who were entrusted by the gods to create the heart of the nation’s authority.

With the Sakura Empire nearly ready to attack on Nintendo Switch in a few short months, here is that brand new batch of screenshots they just dropped:

Lastly, the press release also included some character introductions, which you can see directly quoted below if you’d like to check them out.

Shimakaze

An up-and-coming rookie that joined the fleet well after Ayanami did.

She’s quick and a great listener: talents which she utilizes on the battlefield. Unfortunately, she seems to lack a sense of danger, so it’s not unusual to find her in unexpected trouble. She is constantly reminded to be careful, which she takes to heart, and is showing growth as she prepares to join the Joint Military Exercise.

Of course, many of her seniors get first pick at good opportunities to fight, but she is still seeking to become the MVP along with her partner, Suruga, as she cleverly works her way to bend the rules of the event.

Suruga

A brand new member of the Sakura Empire fleet who joined at the same time as Shimakaze.

She wants to show that she can handle any work assigned to her. Upon first glance, she seems difficult to approach, but that’s only because she’s trying to hide her personality issues and her kindness.

That said, she is having a hard time getting rid of the stress building within her, and keeps pointing out oddities inside her mind. One day, during an exercise, she ends up partnering with Shimakaze. Little did she know that this would change her fate quite drastically…

Taihou

Sakura Empire affiliated. She’s completely devoted (to the Commander), and even if she wasn’t called for, she’ll gallantly appear out of nowhere to stick her nose into things.

Taihou is a playable character who was originally DLC for the PS4 and Steam version of Azur Lane: Crosswave. Her playable character, additional story content, and 3 support ships will be included in the Nintendo Switch release.

Michael Fontanini
Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
