Compared to October 2019, the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite consoles sales for October 2020 are a 136% growth. The two consoles combined sold 735,926 units in the United States last month. That’s their best October sales numbers to date. According to NPD, this also makes them the second-highest October sales for any console in gaming history! The only console to outperform this was the Nintendo Wii, with 807,000 units sold in October of 2008. Overall, the Switch has sold more than 22.5 million units in the United States in its life time. As for global lifetime sales, Nintendo’s own internal data says it has globally sold over 63 million units to date. October’s high numbers continue the Nintendo Switch’s now 23-month long streak as the best-selling video game system. This is the longest streak any console has had since NPD began tracking sales numbers. Nintendo of America President, Doug Bowser, had this to say about the Switch’s success:

“Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite continue to provide one-of-a-kind gaming experiences on the TV or on the go, allowing holiday shoppers the choice of a video game system that matches their lifestyle. Seeing encouraging sales growth like this in the fourth October of Nintendo Switch proves to us that the system has many more years and great games yet to come.”

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
