Developer Gust Studios and Koei Tecmo America have unveiled five new playable characters in Fairy Tail. The intense upcoming JRPG will be arriving in Spring 2020 on the PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 systems. They also released further details on the game’s magic battle systems. Fairy Tail is based on the anime of the same name, which was created by Hiro Mashima. You can find out more about the game at the Fairy Tail official website. Here is the most recent trailer:

The five newly announced characters are from rival guilds in Fiore. The press release says they include the following:

  • ‘Sky God Slayer’ Sherria Blendy from Lamia Scale
  • the ‘Strongest Fencer’ Kagura Mikazuchi from Mermaid Heel
  • the ‘Handsome’ Blue Pegasus mage Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki
  • the ‘White Dragon’ Sting Eucliffe
  • and ‘Shadow Dragon’ Rogue Cheney from Sabertooth.

These are in addition to a list of previously announced characters:

  • Natsu Dragneel
  • Lucy Heartfilia
  • Gray Fullbuster
  • Erza Scarlet
  • Wendy Marvell
  • Gajeel Redfox
  • and Juvia Lockser

Players will build their dream team from over 12 playable characters and their rivals as they work to become the #1 guild in Fiore. Battle parties contain up to five mages, as they battle on a 3×3 grid. Each attack can deal damage over the grid tiles, which can fill up the Fairy Gauge. This is a special “Magic Chain” attack that allows each member of the party to unleash a combo of attacks that is capped by a powerful finisher. Strong characters can, on occasion, jump in and hit the enemy with their “Extreme Magic” to deal heavy damage.

Should the ally party take lots of damage and find itself in trouble, characters can awaken abilities that are normally dormant. This effect can last several turns, during which their powers are boosted in strength significantly. Some mages can perform a “Mode Change”, giving them access to a bunch of new battle options. Dragon Slayers can choose to use “Dragon Force” rather than their awakened abilities. Some mages can join forces to unleash powerful combination attacks, which are called “Unison Raids” and trigger a special cut scene just before the devastating attack is let loose.

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
