The tale of Medusa and her stone gaze is a well-known Greek myth, but in Medusa and Her Lover, developer ship of ELYN invites players to save the snake-haired girl from her curse.

“In the ancient legends, Medusa was treated as a monster, and killed,” says the developer. “However in this game, Medusa has a lover named Gaios, who helps her and guides her along the way during their journey. But however frightened or uneasy you may feel, you absolutely must not look at Gaios’s face.”

Medusa was known for her beautiful eyes — eyes which turn those who meet her gaze to stone. Her lover, Gaios, has sworn to free her from this witch’s curse. Undertake a deadly journey to break the curse so the pair may gaze upon each other once again.

The PlayStation VR title gives players control of both Medusa and Gaios as they traverse six fast-paced levels in their search for a cure. In single-player mode, players control Medusa with the left hand and Gaios with the right, while in two-player co-op, the mythical heroine is controlled with the VR headset and Gaios with a controller. While Gaios uses short-ranged melee attacks with his sword, his lover has both melee and ranged attacks. As in the legends, Medusa’s gaze will turn anything to stone — including Gaios, so players must take care as they guide the lovers through enemies and other obstacles.

The story unfolds throughout each of the six episodes, but players are also invited to aim for a high score on each level.

Medusa and Her Lover, published by PLAYISM, releases on the PlayStation 4 on June 25, 2019, and retail for $19.99 USD.
