With just one week left until their release, the functionality of the Pearl and Marina amiibo for Splatoon 2 has been revealed. According to the Japanese Splatoon Twitter account, scanning the figures grants players access to their special costumes from the Octo Expansion as gear. The figures also activate Pearl- and Marina-Mode in the Squid Beatz mini-game, with special visual and sound effects.

As with all other Splatoon 2 amiibo, players can photograph themselves with Pearl or Marina respectively. If you happen to scan the figures during a real-world Splatfest, the Off the Hook performers can be photographed with your avatar on-stage.

Announced all the way back in February, the Pearl and Marina amiibo launch worldwide on July 13th, 2018. In North America, they will be sold exclusively as a 2-pack for $24.99 USD.
