Episode 16: A Samba of Pain and Festivals

Happy New Year! Welcome back to the first episode of Oprainfall Plays in 2018! What will a new year bring us?

Well on today’s episode of Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash we have another trio of stories. First up is Ryōna’s eternal quest for pain. After that, we head on down to the beach and samba away with Hikage. Finally, we then close out the video by soaking down the others with Renka as she tries to throw a surprise festival.

Peach Beach Splash is back and it’s time to SAMBA!

Additional Thoughts and Notes

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. It may be the start of a new year but that doesn’t mean the party has to stop. Especially if you’re any of the three girls we followed this episode. Per usual, let’s go in order.

Ryōna’s fetish for pain has been a recurring staple of her character since Shinovi Versus. While it can certainly be disturbing to some, Senran Kagura does try to play it as comedy. Personally, I tend to find a lot of her stories hilarious due to their absurdity and just how everyone freaks out around her. This time, however, was a little weak I feel. While Ryōna will always be Ryōna and should never change, this just wasn’t as funny as I thought it could be. Especially when you consider she could have sought out Haruka. Thankfully there was Samba to save us.

Hikage’s episodes are another hilarious mainstay of Senran Kagura with her quest for a nap in Estival Versus, in particular, being my favorite. Until now. Hikage’s crazy samba adventure was just the thing I needed when recording this. A lot of credit has to go to her voice actress for pulling that much emotion out of her while still keeping her in character. It’d be easy to just go crazy and change up the voice to convey the indicated emotions. Instead, she still sounds like Hikage through and through. The ending was a little off I think, but this was still a great episode.

Finally, we have Renka and her plan to throw a surprise festival. As much as I love Renka, this really was an excuse plot when you think about it. Yozakura sadly only shows up in narration and while it’s obvious Renka’s having fun, I just don’t feel like there’s a lot to this one. It makes sense, but after the last two which were at least funny premises, this kinda falls flat. Sure there are some funny moments, but Renka is supposed to the festival girl. I kinda expected more here.

Oh well, at least we can all agree on one thing:

SAMBA! SAMBAAA!
