It’s a very special week for the Nintendo Download. Not necessarily cause of the amount of new games (though there are a few), but because one especially relevant game releases this week, and it’s one tied into the history of the site. Yes, none other than Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the true successor to one of the three games that gave oprainfall our name, is coming out tomorrow. Besides that, there are also some new sales and digital goodies to discuss. So let’s get started, shall we?
Get ready to return to the world of Xenoblade on December 1st with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Explore Alrest and fight off monsters, warriors and more with your living Blade weapons. Discover if Rex and Pyra are capable of navigating the turmoil of the land and finding victory on Nintendo Switch! And stay tuned to oprainfall in the coming weeks for when our official review of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 goes live. Besides the main release of that game, hot on its heels is some additional content. You can pick up the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass, which offers new items, Quests, Blades and even new story content. And if you like your RPGs with traditional voice acting, you’re in luck, as you can download the free Japanese Voice Pack on launch day!
No less exciting, on December 5th you can pick up Nine Parchments, a co-op RPG with real time elements. If you want to discover what that new release will entail, you can try out the demo for free first.
If you’re a fan of mobile Fire Emblem, there is a bunch of new Fire Emblem Heroes updates to check out below:
- Book II of the Main Story Has Begun – The saga of Fire Emblem Heroes moves on to the next chapter. Meet Fjorm, Princess of Ice, and get her to join your team as an ally by clearing Chapter 1: Part 5 of Book II.
- A Legendary Hero and new Blessings Have Been Added – A new Legendary Hero has been added. Fjorm is the first of them, but in the future, you’ll have the chance to obtain others, too. Legendary Heroes have one of four legendary elements (Water, Wind, Earth and Fire) that resonate with the corresponding Blessing to give Heroes strength. With these Blessings, different Legendary Heroes will give different stat bonuses.
- Level Up Your Skills with the Weapon Refinery – Strengthen the weapon skills of your Heroes! After clearing Chapter 13 in the main story and then clearing the Intermission chapter, The Rite of Blades, the Weapon Refinery can then be found under Advanced Growth. With Weapon Refinery, some existing weapon skills can be improved with boosted stats or even additional abilities. Other weapons can even be upgraded into high-level weapons skills.
- Fire Emblem Heroes Bonuses – To celebrate the major 2.0.0 update for the Fire Emblem Heroes game, you can receive a Log-in Bonus of free Orbs up to 10 times until 10:59 p.m. PT on Dec. 12. These Orbs can be obtained from your Present List. But that’s not all: A double EXP and SP event will also take place until 10:59 p.m. PT on Dec. 4.

Finally, let’s close this Nintendo Download out with some digital goodies. If you’re feeling retro, there are a few options this week – Arcade Archives: Traverse USA, ACA NEOGEO World Heroes, Battle Lode Runner and Bomberman ’93. Those are four great games, but some might want something more current, and you still have lots to pick from. If you want something cutesy and laid back, you might like OPUS: The Day We Found Earth. If you’re looking for something more violent, then Serial Cleaner is the game you want. For fun co-op action, try Caveman Warriors. To experience classic adventure gaming goodness, look no further than Syberia 2. For all my Match-3 addicts, MUJO looks compelling. And finally for SHMUP goodness, try out Star Ghost.
Gotta say, this Nintendo Download turned out longer than I expected! I’m sure many of you are beyond excited for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to finally release tomorrow, as we are. But there’s lots of other great games here that I hope folks will also check out. Tune in to oprainfall next week for the first Download of December!
