Steve’s Picks:
This is one of my personal favorite Vita titles. It has an excellent story with plenty of crazy plot twists, and honestly you would be hard pressed to find a better action RPG anywhere. Throw in a great a Falcom soundtrack and some of the prettiest graphics to ever grace the console and you have one hell of a game.
While the Vita has a ton of Dungeon Crawlers, Demon Gaze stands out from the crowd. This is partly due to the fact this game has amazing artwork. It is so detailed and colorful it looks like it could leap off the Vita’s OLED screen. The soundtrack is pretty amazing as well, with many track sung by Vocaloid IA, you end up humming these for hours after you stop playing. The game is very welcoming to beginners but deep enough for veterans to enjoy as well.
Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment
When I first decided to purchase this game on the Vita I was not a fan of Sword Art Online, but by the time I finished playing this I was totally hooked. Though this one did start out really rough in the localization department, this was fixed later with a patch, the gameplay was just simply addictive and hooked me right from the start. I mean great MMO style combat with a huge world to explore and bad ass boss fights, yea this is a ton of fun. Getting to hang out with all the girls and some great fan service CGs are just icing on an already delicious cake.
The Project DIVA series has always been a fantastic series on Sony’s handhelds. I’ve been importing and playing these games for many years. So I was pretty excited when SEGA localized Project DIVA f here in the West. I just simply love the gameplay of the series and with the jump to Vita console the series only got bigger and better. You would be hard pressed to find a Rhythm game anywhere else with this much content, and though some maybe turned off by the Vocaloid music if your a fan this is a must own title.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
While Hypdimenion Neptunia Re:Birth2 and Re:Birth3 are basically upgraded ports of the PS3 games, Hyperdimenison Neptunia Re;Birth1 was a complete remake. I had a blast getting to experience the first game with the much improved combat system from later entries in the series. The introduction of plan system to unlock new stages, abilities, and gear was a very welcomed change as well. While some will say the PC Steam release looks better and plays better at 60 FPS, I cannot put a laptop in my pocket, so I still think this is a must own title for your Vita.
