Developer Bloomylight Studio has cancelled their Kickstarter project Lynn and the Spirits of Inao. The game was going to be a 2D platformer inspired by various Studio Ghibli films.

The developer ended the Kickstarter early after falling under allegations from interns that were unpaid for their work put into Lynn and the Spirits of Inao. The French studio is under even more pressure due to the French law that a company cannot have an intern go unpaid for more than two months. You can read more about the claims on the Reddit page.

Bloomylight Studios has issued this final update:

Hello,

First of all, thank you to all of the backers who supported Lynn and the Spirits of Inao.

After being deeply affected by the various stories from the past few days, and conscious of the mistakes from the past which are now harming the game, we have taken the difficult decision to end the adventure here. In the face of the violent declarations made to us and the threats uttered against members of the team, we now have to end this project that was born in 2011. It is regrettable that a handful of individuals were able to destroy the work of so many people and that they spent so much energy to cause a relentlessness of incredible violence against our team.

We would like to thank all the people who contributed to the game and got involved in the project. These last five years spent working hard on Lynn and the Spirits of Inao were an unforgettable experience motivated by the passion to create a game of quality and to offer a new experience.

Thank you for your understanding.

Bloomylight Studio.

What do you make of this story and the claims against the Studio? Would you still want to see Lynn and the Spirits of Inao, even after the allegations? Let us know in the comment below.

“It is regrettable that a handful of individuals [in our management] were able to destroy the work of so many people [that they never paid]”

    Fixed.

  • Mr0303

The game looked like a Spirited Away inspired Rayman Legends.

This whole situation further illustrates the dangers of Kickstarter.

Just from going off the kickstarter page, it seems like a fun concept.

However, unless I missed it, I do not see a single programmer listed on their main team. It seems like every kickstarter has graphic artists and musicians, but the lack of a programmer mention is a huge problem to me. If you backed this project, you would be gambling that they would be able to find a good programmer to actually make the game. Otherwise, it will be in development hell.

“incredible violence against our team” have they called the police? Or this is just another kickstarter “running with the money” gig
