It is with some mixed emotions that I heard the news about Odin Sphere: Leiftrasir. I love the PS2 original version, even though I have yet to beat it, and at first I thought that Leiftrasir would just be a HD remake. Turns out, according to director Kentaro Ohnishi, the game is going to be much more than that. Due to limitations of the original software, Odin Sphere: Leiftrasir will be completely reimagined, with new mid bosses that weren’t in the original Odin Sphere, as well as new “thought logic” for returning enemies.

Best of all, fans of the original game will be able to play it in Leiftrasir, courtesy of Classic Mode. Classic Mode will let nostalgic fans play the HD version of the original PS2 Odin Sphere, making Leiftrasir a great bargain, with two game experiences bundled in one. Odin Sphere: Leiftrasir will hit PS4, PS3 and Vita in Japan this January 14th. For Western fans, we will have to wait for a later release date. But I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
