Last month, we reported that Sega would be announcing a new title for their open-world action series, Yakuza. It was unclear what kind of game the new title might be — whether a new sequel, or some kind of offshoot like Yakuza Rebirth — but we now know that it will be a prequel entitled Yakuza 0. Taking place before the events of the original PlayStation 2 Yakuza released in 2005, players will once again fill the shoes of series mainstay Kazuma Kiryu, as well as fan favorite, Goro Majima.
Along with this information, Sega revealed a slew of screenshots showcasing the characters that will be making up the cast of the new game. Take a look below:
As you can see, those tasty, tasty PS4 graphics are on full display here. Previous Yakuza titles have used pre-rendered cutscenes to bring out the most of their stories, but with the technology being utilized with the new system, it’s hard to say whether these screenshots reflect gameplay graphics or cutscenes. Yakuza 0 is currently planned to release for PS4 and PS3 in the spring of 2015. As for an international release? Well, I guess we’ll just have to keep crossing our fingers/holding our breaths/praying to Jebus.
