Don’t Starve!

Don’t Starve Together? What’s that?” I hear some of you saying. Well, it is a free multiplayer expansion for Klei Entertainment’s survival game, Don’t Starve. According to their original announcement of this expansion back on May 5, they have been aiming to get the expansion to fans by late summer. It also answers a host of different questions about this new expansion, such as how many players will be supported. Their answer is a minimum of four and possibly a few more. Don’t expect large numbers of players, though. Since they are now starting up a closed beta test for the game, the launch for the expansion is probably not that far away.

Interestingly, you don’t need to actually own Don’t Starve to sign up for the closed beta, because those who are accepted into the closed beta will receive a limited version of the Don’t Starve client that only supports multiplayer. If you are interested in getting into the Don’t Starve Together closed beta, you just need to fill out this form, and they have also put up this FAQ full of information about the closed beta and applications.

don't starve togetherGenerally, applicants for the closed beta will be chosen randomly. The FAQ does say, though, that Klei will be hand picking some applicants who they think will be of great help in the testing process. Through the questions in the form, Klei are trying to get an idea of your preferences and your interests in Don’t Starve. However, most of the application form is optional. They also say that the information gained from the form will only be used for the purposes of the closed beta, and that your e-mail address will only be used to notify you if you are one of the chosen applicants. If not, they will not use your e-mail for any other purpose, which is good and as it should be.

The video below shows the original prototype version of Don’t Starve Together. As such, keep in mind that it has undergone a few more months of development since this footage was recorded.

Michael Fontanini
Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
