Mario – Super Mario Bros
For some 30 years now, Mario has faithfully served the Mushroom Kingdom in almost every capacity. He has done everything from repeatedly rescuing the kingdom’s ruler from multiple villains to repelling alien invasions to acting as ambassador for other kingdoms to hosting international sporting events. And for what? Mario usually gets little more than a kiss on the nose from the Princess, if he’s even lucky enough to get that.
Clearly, Mario isn’t in this game for the rewards, but, rather, for what I can only assume is a strong sense of national pride. I’d wager to say that there’s nothing Mario wouldn’t do for the Mushroom Kingdom, and, due to that fact, this puts him head and shoulders above even the most patriotic characters of other games.
Plus, his chosen attire is red, white and blue! How can you get more patriotic than that?*
* Ed. note: I suppose if your country’s colors are something else, they could be more patriotic…
