Popup Dungeon

Tabletop-RPG-inspired game Popup Dungeon has reached its funding goal. The indie game can now add this milestone to its list of accomplishments, which also include the impressive 11 days it took to be approved by the Steam Greenlight community. It’s also the second successful campaign in as many tries for developer Triple.B.Titles.

Developed by the team behind Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages, Popup Dungeon is a papercraft-inspired roguelike RPG that is pretty much about creation. According to its Greenlight page, the game “lets players create any weapon, any ability, any enemy, and any character they can imagine. It’s a papercraft version of an enchanted board game with tactical, turn-based RPG gameplay in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics.”

The developer has a number of stretch goals they hope to reach, whether it’s through Kickstarter or PayPal. One of them is a port to the Wii U. Apparently, some of the backers are getting nervous that they won’t hit the $100,000 (USD) goal. However, Triple.B.Title was able to alleviate any concern, noting that the stretch goal is more of a way to bring it to the Wii U quicker.

From their Kickstarter update:

If we don’t raise sufficient money to hire someone to help us with the port, it’s still possible to enlist the aid of a publisher, work out a percentage deal with a third party, or simply do it ourselves once primary development is completed. In any case, your pledge entitles you to a Wii U key. And this is in addition to a Steam key, so it’s like you’re getting both games for the price of one! 😉

Well, at the very least, they’ll have a cameo by Alicia from Heart Forth, Alicia. This marks the second cameo she’ll make in a crowdfunded game, the first being an appearance in Hex Heroes.

Popup Dungeon is slated to come to Windows, Mac OS, and Linux (via Steam) and the Wii U, with the possibility of an Android release. It’s currently scheduled for release in early 2016. You have until 5:15 PM EDT Sunday to donate through Kickstarter. A PayPal option is also available.
