Shenmue III | oprainfall

Well, that was fast. After a surprise announcement during Sony’s E3 Press Conference, Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue III project is funded. Asking for $2 million, gamers responded in record time. As of this writing, it’s raised over $2.6 million. It’s become Kickstarter’s fastest project to reach $1 million and $2 million. This comes at the heels of Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained project raising over $5.5 million.

Those who’ve said in the past that it’s bad for big name Kickstarters to use the platform have been vocal during the past day, as Shenmue III will have a lot of high expectations attached to it. There’s also the risk of a game’s budget being perceived as unrealistic, as Shenmue III surely has outside investors, as $2 million is actually a very small budget these days for a game.
