At the end of 2010, indie developer WaterMelon released Pier Solar and the Great Architects on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. While well received, there is an issue with the game in that it was released in very limited quantity and on dated hardware, making it pretty hard to find let alone play. To fix this, WaterMelon started a Kickstarter campaign in 2012 to give Pier Solar the HD treatment and bring it to the more current consoles. Needless to say, Pier Solar surpassed all stretch goals for the campaign, meaning that we will be able to play it on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux, Android, Ouya and Sega Dreamcast sometime this Spring. In addition, WaterMelon has also submitted Pier Solar to Steam Greenlight.
As we get closer to release, WaterMelon has released the first HD trailer for the game. Check it out below.
Pier Solar is a beautiful RPG presented in a 16-bit art style that puts the players’ knowledge of the genre to the test with a complicated, but rewarding, battle system. The game’s beautiful artwork is complemented very well by its amazing soundtrack. It will be a wonderful game for those longing for a classic RPG with very little hand-holding and an amazing story that should be experienced by all.
