XSEED announced on their Twitter (with their Facebook following up soon after) that the latest Ys title, Ys: Memories of Celceta, will be getting its own Limited Edition release in North America. It is specially named The Silver Anniversary Edition. Not too surprising, since SXEED in fact had commissioned Limited Editions for every single PSP Ys title they published in North America, including Nihon Falcom’s first title in the Sora no Kiseki trilogy, Trails in the Sky FC. So again, not too shocking they’re continuing the tradition on the Vita. What makes this Limited Edition even better than all that came before it is that it’s not just any Limited Edition, or just special in name alone; it’s what it stands for.
The release of Ys: Memories of Celceta will mark a celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary, so some fans across the ocean from Japan will also be able to bask in Ys goodness in their own way. The Silver Anniversary Edition will include: the game, nice packaging (hopefully a tin like previous Falcom game Limited Editions), a three CD collection of original and arranged music spanning the entire history of the franchise, a cloth map detailing the lands of Celceta, a logo-emblazoned compass, and ‘Adol’s Travel Journal’ filled with adventuring strategies and artwork. It’s amazing stuff that any fan can appreciate, and it’s nice that XSEED continues to go all out for such a niche series.
Ys: Memories of Celceta is a PlayStation Vita exclusive with no concrete release date announced as of yet. The Limited Edition is not yet available for pre-order, but XSEED promises to give an update on this real soon. For those not up to speed, Ys: Memories of Celceta is a re-imagining of Ys IV which had two games released: Tonkin House’s Ys IV: Mask of the Sun and Hudson Soft’s Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. Both were originally released back in 1993. The new game will be replacing the two as the canonical title in the mainline series.
