New screenshots for Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl are available with courtesies to Atlus. The following images are from the animated cutscenes, which are produced by Madhouse, the company behind works such as Summer Wars, Redline, Paprika, and much more. The game’s illustrator Yuji Himukai, who has also done artwork for previous installments, is supervising the animation.

Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl is the first game in the series to have animated cutscenes. You can view the screenshots below:

At the beginning, we see the protagonist meet the city’s adventurers, who will be investigating the strange incidents in Etria. We then see a glimpse of the lead character’s home, where a rite of passage appears to be taking place. Finally, we see a shot of the millennium girl Frederica, and her together with the whole cast, as they head to the Labyrinth of the World Tree’s direction. It is unclear if the images are sequential to an the opening theme song or if they belong to individual cutscenes.

Atlus has also released concept art for the game, which you can see below as well:

The artwork looks quite nice in comparison to the animations, and they appear to translate in the footage very well. It is only a matter of time before we can see the cutscenes in motion.

Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl will release on the Nintendo 3DS, and is due June 27th in Japan.
