Nobunaga's Ambition

Nobunaga's Ambition compilation with replica Tanegashima rifle

Thirty years ago, in 1983, Koei released Nobunaga’s Ambition, the first in a long line of Sengoku Period-themed strategy titles. Earlier this week, on May 14th, Tecmo Koei held a press conference to announce a pair of upcoming releases to celebrate the franchise’s thirtieth anniversary. Both are due out in Japan later in 2013.

The first is an all-new title in the Nobunaga’s Ambition series. Entitled Nobunaga no Yabou: Souzou (or Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creation), the game will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Windows. The game’s subtitle reflects the game’s focus on the player’s ability to cut their own path in history. A specific release date for the game was not announced.

In addition, Tecmo Koei is preparing a special compilation with a working title translating roughly to “Nobunaga’s Ambition Successive Generation Complete Title Collection.” The compilation will feature all thirteen entries in the franchise previously released on the PC. In addition, the package will include a twelve-disc soundtrack compilation and an art book profiling cover art from throughout the series.

The compilation will come in two editions. The standard edition will run ¥31,500 (approximately $308 USD), while a special collector’s edition sold exclusively through Tecmo Koei’s Japanese online shop will sell for ¥52,500 (approximately $513 USD). The collector’s edition will come with an individually numbered replica Tanegashima matchlock rifle and display stand. Both editions are scheduled for release on September 20th.
