GDC Audience Award

The Game Developers Choice Audience Award is now open for voting, featuring many nominees and winners from our own Operation Rainfall Awards, including Journey, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and our Multiplatform Game of the Year Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward.

Aksys published a post on their blog last night encouraging fans to vote for Virtue’s Last Reward. While highly acclaimed, their game faces stiff competition among other video games released in the past year that are recognized at the annual awards show. In addition to the audience award, Virtue’s Last Reward is also nominated for Best Narrative.

Although GDC Awards started in 2001, this is the first time that the awards have included an audience award for the general public to vote in, making a distinct attempt to involve gamers in what has traditionally been an event for developers to give recognition to their peers. By contrast, the Game Developer’s Choice Online Awards, for online games only, have had an audience award since it began in 2010. The 13th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards is held during the Game Developers Conference on March 27, 2013.
