“Nintendomination” is still the theme in this week’s Media Create charts. Animal Crossing: New Leaf seems to have new life from the holiday season, more than doubling last week’s numbers and returning to the top spot. New Super Mario Bros. U was sold at an increased rate as well, topping the Wii U games with nearly 80,000 units moved. And Nintendo sales pretty much trended upwards across the top 20. What lost sales for games on Nintendo’s consoles? Namco Bandai’s Toriko: Gourmet Monsters! for 3DS and Taiko no Tatsujin for the Wii, as well as last week’s number 1 game, Level-5’s Inazuma Eleven Go 2: Chrono Stone. In short, it was a VERY Merry Christmas for Iwata and his Kyoto crew.
That’s not to say that no one else did well this week. Namco Bandai continued to pick up spots on the chart with several offerings, including newcomers One Piece: Romance Dawn and the PSP/Vita dating sim AKB1/149 Love Election. Nippon Columbia can also claim holiday victory with the return of Kobito Zukan: Kobito Kansatsu Set to the top 20.
Also of note, Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 has started well, topping the 100,000 mark for the PS3 version. The Wii U port will be available in Japan at the end of January. Ken’s Rage 2 will release in North America and Europe in early February for the Ps3 and Xbox 360 – no word on the release date for the Wii U port.
