Earthbound Central recently hosted their own live stream of the original SNES version of Earthbound not too long ago. One of the leads for Earthbound’s translation and localization, Marcus Lindblom, appeared in the chat during the stream. While he was there, he answered a couple of questions revealed about the game’s localization. For instance, one of the characters names in Magicant, a girl named Nico, was based on Marcus’ real life daughter of the same name.
“Nico was born on 2/8/95 and I worked for like 30 straight days after that, like 12-14 hours/day
I think that’s why they let me put her name in…”
Additionally, he talked about Gigyas’ name. Or, at least, how to properly pronounce it.
“So in Japanese it’s pronounced like “Geeg”
So we all pronounced it as “Geegus”
Marcus was only in the chatroom for a few moments. He stated that he liked how people were speculating about all sorts of things related to Earthbound and would hate to diminish that. For a full transcript of the chat with Marcus, you can check it out here.
