There is no better day for a Nintendo Download than one following a surprise Direct! And I do mean surprise. I was shocked by some of the announcements this morning, primarily The World Ends With You: Final Remix. While it’s not the sequel I’ve long been hoping for, it’s more than I expected. Hopefully it will let the series end on a high note it deserves while providing more context to the fantastic world of the game. But that’s not why you’re here, you’re here for the games out today! There’s some good stuff to cover today, including some snippets left over from the Direct, a new sale and a host of digital games. Let’s check out the games worth playing!

Nintendo Download | Dragon Quest Builders

First off, if you love games that give you a lot of freedom to explore and build, you can try out a demo for Dragon Quest Builders starting today! Our own William absolutely adored it when he reviewed the PS4 version, so if you missed out on that, you should give the demo a try. Next, fresh from the Direct, there is new DLC for Pokkén Tournament DX. The Battle Pack gives players two Waves of Support and Battle Pokémon to liven things up, including Aegislash, Blastoise, Mega Rayquaza, Mimikyu, Mew and Celebi! Those are all great, and it’s perhaps heartening to see that Game Freak is willing to adopt a DLC model. While I admit I would prefer more tangible and hearty DLC, maybe this is a sign that future mainline Pokémon games will use episodic DLC to spice things up. God knows Ultra Sun and Moon should have just been DLC, not standalone titles… Sorry, getting off topic. Back to happy news about games!

Nintendo Download | Furi

Besides the previously mentioned titles, there are a couple more worth checking out. First, as of next week you can purchase InnerSpace, a flying exploration game. If you want something more crazed, you can pick up stylish action game Furi right now! Oh and if you need to itch your Pokémon fix but want something more classic, you can download Pokémon Crystal when it launches at the end of this month.

Nintendo Download | forma.8

Finally, let’s close out with some great new digital titles. As always, I have culled the best from the pack, and won’t be mentioning anything that is obviously shovelware. First up, forma.8 has a new demo for the Switch, if you wanted to see what that Metroidvania is like. A few new interesting titles will be launching next week – Energy Balance, Gunhouse and Nightmare Boy. Of those three, I personally think Gunhouse is the most visually fascinating, but they all have some fun to offer. But if you’re impatient like me and want games now, the following are either out today or tomorrow. First, you can get retro with the latest ACA NEOGEO, Art of Fighting 2! If you feel more like a relaxing puzzle adventure, try out Azkend 2: The World Beneath. For those hankering for new takes on old games, check out Energy Invasion, which looks a lot like Breakout. For those who want a multiplayer Bomberman-inspired experience, the dark Brawl looks fascinating. Seriously, it looks like Five Nights at Freddies meets Bomberman! And finally, if you’re a platformer masochist, you can now play Super Meat Boy on your Switch!

What did I tell you? Nintendo Downloads are always more interesting after a Direct, especially a ninja one that comes out of nowhere. Tune in to oprainfall next week for the latest Download, and be sure to pick up some great games on your Nintendo consoles!
