Xbox One exclusive Scalebound has been canceled after 4 years of development. It seems that difficulties rose during the development and that the relationship between Microsoft and Platinum Games has deteriorated. Deadlines were not reached and various problems appeared. The future of the game is obscure and we do not know if Platinum will continue to work on the project. The game was planned for Xbox One but would also have been accessible for PC gamers through the Xbox Play Anywhere program. This title  featured the adventures of Drew and Thuban, the last dragon of its kind.

Here is the full official statement from Microsoft:”After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”

a fucking punch in the guts

  • microsoft can not into japanese devs

  • Another Xbox One game canceled. Don’t worry guys soon Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, and Sea of Thieves will be cancelled as well.

    • Miqubi

I have my doubts, maybe crackdown 3 is a bit in hot water, at least according to rumors, but the rest I doubt it, those are MP focused games, my gut feeling is that microsoft is pursuing the games as a service route with the intention of increasing players engagement, which while I don’t like (at all) is something that has been proven to be more succesful than singleplayer only.

XBL users, revenue and software sales are up if MS can grow its xbox/win10 ecosystem then it’ll be fine, again it’s not something I like but that is also where money are being poured for big projects, I wouldn’t be surprised if MS is pursuing that goal.

  • Mr0303

That is a massive black spot on MS’ PR. They prominently featured the game at multiple conferences only to cancel it near release. I’d be curious to know the reasoning behind that decision.

    • Miqubi

yeah I would be interested in knowing it as well, I hope we’ll get some post mortem at some point from an insider.

  • Panpopo

Damn. No one wins with this news 🙁

  • Nicholas Perry

Microsoft just doesn’t know how to Japanese! They seem to mismanage every great Japanese thing thrown their way.

  • mike_fantastic

Who do we petition to keep this thing alive. I was looking forward to this one. Oprainfall for US releases?

  • catazxy

Just don’t screw up Nier Automata….

  • Miles

Well its a disappointing but oh well. I have other games to play. At least I don’t have to spend $300+ for a new Xbox One.

  • Jeremy Barnes

Ouch. That’s gotta hurt for Microsoft. Seemed like it was only exclusive for them that I had actually heard of..
