Persona 5 Protagonist

While Atlus has been releasing great games to us this year, its hard to not notice the absence of information regarding Persona 5 since it was first revealed to us months ago. This has led to speculation the game is going to be delayed to 2016 for North America as even the game’s release in Japan is up in the air. In an interview with God Is A Geek, Atlus USA’s John Hardin had the following statement regarding Persona 5’s release and in response to some circulated listings showing Square-Enix as the publisher for the game:

“That’s just completely wrong. A lot of people assume that this is correct because they published something back in what, 2008? It just isn’t true. I’m working on getting those incorrect listing removed. We are trying to get publishers locked in for our titles in EU and will announce things when they are locked in. We don’t want another Shin Megami Tensei IV or Devil Survivor Overclocked situation. We are very aware of what happens when we make premature announcements for Europe. At least I am. The only thing I can confirm for Persona 5 is 2015.”

Currently, Atlus plans to release Persona 5 this year and will do eveything it can to keep the release date intact. I have a feeling they may be forced to eventually delay the game as they have yet to confirm a release month for the game. Only time will tell if we are getting closer to playing Persona 5 in our PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles.

What are your thoughts to Atlus’s latest statement regarding Persona 5’s release? Do you believe we are going to get the game in 2015 or in 2016? Share us your thoughts below.

They have 4 1/2 months to release this game….The fact that they don’t even have a release date set at this point is very disconcerting.

I need to set up a bet. I challenge everyone to bet over or under 4 months for Persona 5’s release.

I’m going to go with it being *technically* released in 2015, but on like December 30th.

Is this not exactly the same thing that happened with Persona 4? And the game did in fact get released in 2008, as promised, just that it was December 2008, cutting it somewhat close to that deadline. If I recall, the way they managed it was that they were localizing it at the same time the Japanese version was in development.

Sorry Atlus. I love your stuff but I’m gonna have to wait for the inevitable uber version. Fighting games I don’t mind additions so much because the time commitment is different. JRPGs however are like black holes and needing to replay parts of one to get to the juicy stuff is the very definition of grinding.

I sincerely hope they don’t try to rush this, it’s honestly -not- in their best interests to release this on the Christmas season. There’s gonna probably be some big names being pushed out the door then and P5 will likely be drowned out in the entire rush of the holiday season. I would RATHER wait till early 2016 when there’s a bit of a lack of major releases to be smothered by.

Then again, they DO NOT want to try and pick a release date that might be anywhere near FFXV (which I assume will be out in early-mid 2016), cuz that’s just gonna be plain stupid. Besides that, there isn’t really any other big JRPGs coming out during the holiday season, so that might work better for them (the only other real threat that I know of during that time will be COD: BOps3).

    • Jeroen Keers

Tales of Zestiria, Devil Survivor 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released during the holiday season. It’s probably better to postpone Persona until 2016.

    • TylorW

Devil Survivor 2? Isn’t that already out (and I’m talking about Record Breaker)?

Besides that, the only other real threat would be Zestiria since that’s on the same systems as P5. Xenoblade Chronicles X is only on the Wii U, so that is only a big deal for those who have to choose if they’d rather want a game for their PS4, PS3, or Wii U.

I think the European release is going to get delayed to 2016. This makes me very sad.
