Kholat is a game focused on experience and storytelling, largely by means of visual medium. In order to provide best graphics quality possible, we made a decision to switch to the Unreal Engine 4. Last month was spent on porting of all the game assets and now we’re ready to share the effects of our work.
“The Light is On” Trailer shows the initial game location – the town of Ivdel. It’s where the actual story of Dyatlov Pass Incident starts, as well as the first place witnessed by the Kholat protagonist. We put a lot of research efforts into recreating the environment as closely as it really is. A good example is the accurately recreated Ivdel Train Station – a place where the ill-fated train carrying Dyatlov group arrived on 25th January 1959.
Kholat is a game developed by independent studio IMGN.PRO, inspired by true events known as the “Dyatlov Pass Incident”. We follow the path of a group of Russian students, that went for an expedition in the northern Ural Mountains. The team does not reach its goal, the entire crew dies in mysterious circumstances.
The rescue expedition is being sent. They find the tent, which is cut from the inside. Students bodies, incompletely dressed, are found within a radius of several hundred meters. Everything points to some kind of event, that caused sudden panic which led to the tragic, chaotic escape. In most cases, death occurs as a result of chilling, but some bodies have other multiple, strange damage signs.
Player is thrown into the area where the tragedy occurred, years after the actual event, with a chance to discover the real course of the tragedy. Atmosphere of anxiety and dread is created by fear management system. It is responsible for precise dosing of anxiety and uncertainty, based on what the player is doing, making each gameplay a unique experience.
Release date: Q1 2015
