Tales of Hearts R | oprainfall

Tales of Hearts R has been announced for localization to Western regions. The announcement comes via video from Hideo Baba, less than a week after GameStop had the game listed on its website as an exclusive. No information was given about a release date — other than Winter 2014 — or how it will be released.

Tales of Hearts R is the Vita remake of the eleventh mothership title in the Tales series. The game originally released on the Nintendo DS in 2008 for Japan. While it didn’t release in the West, Baba had expressed interest in bringing it over one day.

We expect more information to come soon. We’ll pass it along when it does.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, GameStop does not have the game re-listed on its website yet.

Was there a complete change in management? It just seems hard to imagine a game that was deemed not worth bothering to localize during the DS boom would find more support as a Vita game.

    • KP

But this is after Xillia and Symphonia Chronicles. I think the fan response to both of those games has improved the chances for remakes to come over. I would love to see Tales of Innocence R come as well~

    • Jonah Rosen

I too would like to see Innocence R come as well. (I would also like Vesperia PS3 to come over, but that unfortunately isn’t gonna happen…)

    • Pyrotek85

I’d put money on us getting Vesperia eventually (maybe late in PS4’s life), but probably not anytime soon.

    • Keichi Morisato

      that would be pretty sweet.

    • chris

Exactly what sense does that make? The further away we get from the platform being viable, the more likely we are to get a game from 2009 released on it?

    • Matthew Fitzgerald

there is an article where Baba-san says that the company is more interested in making ps3 titles than going to ps4…can’t find it for the life of me…however, if ps3 is becoming ‘less viable’, then why are we still getting games and also having sony make Playstation Now across all 3 systems?…if a company wants a decent budget game, they have the vita or the ps3 or both…if they want a high budget, with or without cross play, they still have the option of ps3 and vita, ps4 and vita, or all 3 to access all the $$$…ps2 still has super awesome games that will most likely be brought back on PSNow…so even the ps2 is still viable, just in a virtual way…I’m sure we’ll get TOV on ps3 than ps4…keep positive and I’m sure will have them all soon, ps3 or ps4…

    • chris

I’m pretty sure I read that Zetiria would be the last PS3 Tales game.

    • Jason Honaker

Buy Hearts R and we just might get Innocence R too 😉

    • Keichi Morisato

what Jason said, just keep buying them, so more will come over.

    • Jonah Rosen

Of course! I own every English-released game in the series to date! (With the exception of Vesperia 360 which I no longer own due to trading in my 360 for a PS3.)

    • Keichi Morisato

sold you 360 huh? well that was a smart move. i usually tell people to avoid the Xbox if they like playing more than shooters.

    • Jonah Rosen

yeah, I bought it for Vesperia 360, then sold it because I couldn’t find enough good games that aren’t already on the PS3 and then some, so I sold it. Plus having to pay to play online and the marketplace system at the time pissed me off.

    • I think we might see a “Tales of Vesperia” anniversary collection for the PS4, as you guys say. PS3 version upscaled with “The First Strike” on the disc too. It’ll happen very possibly!!

    • Red Harlow

i play more then shooters on xbox, stop being one of those people ignorant of the fact some people just would rather not get a playstion.

    • Keichi Morisato

let me guess, multi platform games that i can play on my PlayStation and PC. the only thing MS has, is Halo Gears and Forza. when i say shooters, i am talking about exclusives not CoD. MS only like those 3.

    • Mantiskilla

But yet 360 DOES have the exclusive Tales of Vesperia game for NA/EU, and don’t forget a game I know a lot of Sony fans want to play in Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds. Nah the 360 has a lot more than just exclusive shooters though (which Im not big fan of any), and Forza franchise (fantastic!). I like both consoles but Playstation doesn’t fulfill the void for one of my favorite genres at all which is STGs (bullet hell shooters). Frankly they just flat out suck when it comes to having games of that genre available unlike Xbox and PC

    • Keichi Morisato

i meant games that weren’t released within the first 2 or so years of the consoles life.

    • Mantiskilla

Ah yeah I can understand that considering PS3 did struggle for the first couple years

    • Keichi Morisato

it’s not that i don’t think that Xbox platform is bad or anything, i just don’t have faith that MS will continue supporting the system with anything other than timed exclusivity of DLC and indie games.

    • Keichi Morisato

sort of… Hideo Baba once the director of the series, is now the producer and so has more say on localization possibilities. he has also been traveling around the world to make strong ties to the western market. and since FF is a shell of it’s former glory, fans migrated to a series that would better suite their taste.

    • thedankknight

      Alcohol.

  • Matthew Fitzgerald

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!….]XD…

  • Raymond

Hmm….i just hope they don’t release most of the tales series on the vita. It’s not that i don’t like the vita, i just don’t want to buy a vita at the time because of the price. The one tales game that will make me just say “Fuk it i will just buy a vita” is tales of rebirth.

Oh god please give us tales of rebirth.

    • Keichi Morisato

they won’t, they will continue to make console Tales games, they just like making handheld games too, especially because the handheld market in Japan is huge.

  • smacd

I seriously hope that only the physical version is gamestop exclusive. So far I’m only buying digitally for my PSP/Vita and I’d like to keep that going. Though I will get the physical version if there isn’t a digital option.

    • Jonah Rosen

I personally hope that it ISN’T Gamestop exclusive as I don’t even have a Gamestop where I live. (There’s an EB Games, but it rarely get’s the same deals and exclusives that are shown in Gamestop’s online store or there newletters.)

    • Elvick

Use the EB Games website. May not get the same sales, but we often get all the pre-order stuff there. And their shipping gets to me the day of release for free. I might be close by to a warehouse or something though. Not that far from Vancouver.

    • Steve Baltimore

Unless Sony bends the rules for them all Vita games must be put on PSN for digital purchase.

  • Thanatos2k

Well isn’t that nice of them.

Bamco has really turned themselves around. Even since Tales of Graces they’ve really shown that they care about localizing their games, and hopefully we’ll never go back to the Tales dark ages again.

    • Jonah Rosen

All we’re missing is Tales of Innocence R as far as games that were released after Graces F (and Tales of the Heroes: Twin Braves if you want to be really technical.)

    • Thanatos2k

We’re missing Tales of Rebirth is what we’re missing. I actually don’t care if they ignore all the missed handheld ones.

    • Jonah Rosen

….In that case, why not release all Tales game in the whole world? >_> Why not release Vesperia complete/PS3, Destiny 2, or Radiant Mythology 2 and/or 3…? >___>

    • Thanatos2k

Budget, assumedly. Releasing games for dead platforms would be a disaster, and Vesperia PS3 wouldn’t work because unlike the Japanese, Americans don’t buy the same game twice during the same console generation. It didn’t really work for SO4, and it’s far too late for Vesperia now.

The Radiant Mythologies are just plain bad games in my opinion, so I can see why they hold those back. They barely have Tales battle systems up to par with the real games and every other aspect of the games is sub par.

Destiny 2 and Rebirth are the only two games of significance they’ll have missed, and the only two they’ve missed I want to play.

  • mirahsan2

    omg!!!!!!!!

  • Charlotte Buckingham

I don’t think ANYONE saw this coming since it had been so long. This is fantastic news! 😀

  • DigitalGhost

Having these titles finally reach our shores is most certainly exciting but the one tales of title I would love to see localized more than anything is Tales of Rebirth. That game still to date is revered as one of the greatest tales of titles ever released. Here’s to hoping mister Baba will look further back in the Tales of timeline and serve us with this forgotten gem.

    SO STOCKED!!!
