How many people reacted to the Tales of Zestiria news from earlier this morning with, “I’m not going to be excited until it’s confirmed for the West”? Such a response is most definitely justified, but hold onto your hats, folks. The following quote comes from Tales chief producer Makoto Yoshizumi. I think you’ll like what he has to say!

Tales of Zestiria | Official Logo

“2015 marks the 20th anniversary for the Tales of franchise in Japan and I would like to thank all the fans who have supported us for the past two decades from the bottom of my heart. In recent years we have received anticipation for the series not only from Japan, but from overseas fans as well. Because of this I feel that the Tales of series has more potential than ever before. For this reason we are taking this opportunity to announce Tales of Zestiria as a worldwide release. This title will be going back to the roots of the series and boldly exclaim to the world ‘this is Tales of!’”

Hide Baba adds: “Over the past few years the Tales of team has taken great strides to strengthen our relationship with players across North America and Europe. To respond to their love and support I am honored to open a new chapter of the Tales of series together with Japanese and overseas fans.”

This is outstanding news. Surely everyone across the globe can be excited for Tales of Zestiria now. A release date has not yet been determined, but in the meantime I’m sure fans will enjoy Tales of Xillia 2 coming next year, as well as other localized entries in the franchise.

Has a game in this series ever been announced for Western release the same day the game itself was announced in Japan?

    • Kyle Emch

Nope. I’m pretty sure this is the first time that it’s happened.

@disqus_8g5lcGRU8r:disqus @kyleemch:disqus pretty sure Tales of Symphonia Unisonant Pack/Chronicles got announced on the same day (during the Tales of Festival in July earlier this year)

If it’s really a worldwide release (meaning on the same day!?), it will be the first though…that’s hoping for too much though..

Vesperia was pretty close. Came out in the US two weeks after Japan.

    • Thanatos2k

I suspect that was because it had support from Microsoft.

    • Kyle Emch

Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. My mistake.

Kind of a dumb question, but just for clarity, does the announcement of a worldwide release mean we won’t have as large of a gap between the Japan and western releases?

Most likely no. But unlike some are speculating. I find it unlikely that this will come out at the same time. This hasn’t been said anywhere, only that we’re getting it.
With Symphonia coming out at the end of February, it is highly likely that Xillia 2 will be coming out around the middle of the year, my guess around the same time We got Xillia this year. They’re probably going to want to space out the releases a little bit. My guess is early 2015 for Zestiria in the US.

Early to Mid 2015 would be great for me. I love the Tales of games and RPGs in general, but it takes me a while to complete them so there’s been pretty nice release spacing, for me at least.

Hopefully they can hire some translators this time so it doesn’t take them a year to release it outside Japan.

  • Brian Stevenson

Wow, worldwide release? Are they just confirming it will be released eventually, or are they saying they’re going Pokemon XY style and releasing it worldwide on the same DAY (or at least very close to the same day)?

Tremendous news, this in an of itself is a huge step forward. Now, about including optional Japanese voices…

    • chris

It’s exactly what they said, It will be released Worldwide. They haven’t said it will be released at the same time and I’m not sure how people are getting that idea from reading what they’ve said.

    • Brian Stevenson

Because that’s the terminology that Nintendo just used to describe how PKMN XY was going to be released at the same time all over the world.

  • RagunaXL

hey, tales has made it great for rpg fans to be a ps3 owner. jealous of my brother who is one, I own the wii :/

  • Carlos Mendoza

and once again namco bandai has ignored nintendo when it comes to the tales series. stop being stingy and bring all tales series to nintendo consoles, including portables unless you dont want my money.
