Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be released sometime this summer for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the PC.

There will be cross-platform access, much like in Final Fantasy XI, where PC players will be on the same servers as PS3 players so they can play together.

Phase 3 of the closed Beta testing period will also begin in June. This third phase will open up new content, such as the two new cities: Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa.

Both the PC and PS3 versions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn are currently available for pre-order at (Editor’s note: is no longer taking pre-orders for unknown reasons.)

  • I just have to ask: Do you need a monthly subscription after buying the game? Because I was planning to get this for PS3

  • Omuhimu

Yes there will be a monthly fee, which of course is a good/bad thing depending on how you view it. I’d assume they won’t probably go the free to play route like most other developers.

I personally prefer it to be paid, only because after playing FFXI, and the bit of the beta for FFXIV before and after the “A Realm Reborn” phase I can justify spending money per month on it.

I understand the money grab of Free-to-play or “Pay-to-win” that other developers use, but those MMO’s again personally, I get annoyed with people same level as me killing things way above their level, or leveling 2x as fast as me. I’m a bit old school when playing as I want to get my power through dedication and hard work, not just by forking over X.XX amount of dollars.

But hey to each their own, and all that.
