The Evil Within - Feature Image

If you’ve been curious about The Evil Within and were hoping to see more of what the game will actually look like, then today is a good day for you! Bethesda has released several screenshots and some concept art from the upcoming third-person survival horror title.

The Evil Within opens with three detectives arriving at an asylum to investigate a murder that has taken place there. The police that arrived before them have all seemingly vanished and left behind their cars and equipment. When the detectives enter the asylum, they stumble upon several dead bodies littering the floor. The protagonist Sebastian is eventually knocked unconscious and wakes up alone in a new location. It’s up to the player to get him out alive and to uncover the secrets behind the murders. Players will be armed with basic weapons and will have the ability to set traps for the creatures they encounter throughout the game.

The game is coming from Bethesda’s Japanese studio Tango Gameworks and is being developed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame. On the subject of The Evil Within, Mikami was quoted as saying:

“Obviously I like horror. But survival horror has been drifting away from what makes it survival horror. And so I want to bring it back. Bring back survival horror to where it was.”

There’s no official release date for the game as of yet, but it will be out sometime in 2014.
