Some eagle-eyed Puella Magi Madoka Magica fans have started a petition to convince the scientists of the Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) and the International Astronomical Union to rename the NGC 6357 nebula the “Madokami Nebula” due to its alleged resemblance to Ultimate Madoka, series main character Madoka Kaname’s ultimate form.
The petition reads, in part:
It is our belief that NGC 6357 is the physical representation of Madoka Kaname… We feel that calling her Holiness the “War and Peace” Nebula is a desecration of the trials and hardships she endured in her life before her ascension. Thus, we humbly ask that NGC 6357 be renamed the “Madokami Nebula”.
NGC 6357 is a nebula in the constellation Scorpius. It was actually given the name War and Peace Nebula by the MSX scientists—a moniker already cool in itself because the scientists feel that in infrared images, the bright, western part resembles a dove, and in contrast, the eastern part resembles a skull.
The petition can be found HERE.
We cannot guarantee that signing the petition is, in fact, making a contract with Kyubey.
