Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
We here are at oprainfall are very enthusiastic about Eternal Darkness, and more than excited about the potential for a spiritual successor. This GameCube exclusive, though successful in many ways, was never quite the blockbuster compared to other Nintendo-published games. Many of you may be wondering what the fuss is about. The most simple explanation is: it’s a very good game. You can find out for yourself with a smart buy on the grey market. However, because it received such critical praise with a relatively low volume of availability, average prices are slightly higher than many other GameCube games. If you’re patient, you can get it for very cheap.

Tales of Symphonia
So the tenth anniversary of the hit GameCube RPG classic is coming soon and you decided you have to play this again. Sure, you could always go for the recently announced HD remaster, but what about the original? Since early 2011, Tales of Symphonia has actually been rising in price from about $20 to near $40 for a used copy. It’s a sign that the game has aged well, and buyers value their copies of the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog (US Sega Master System)
The chart shows a steady straight line because there’s only one real sale of this very rare game that we actually know about. Back on December 10, 2011, this game sold for a whopping $981.33. Let’s see Earthbound try to top that (it definitely has). Sonic the Hedgehog was popular, yes, but what makes this Master System version special is the circumstances behind its release in the U.S. The U.S. version of the game is practically identical to the European version, where the Master System was much more popular, except for a UPC sticker that was placed on the back so that it could be sold in U.S. stores. Sega literally just imported the European versions, placed the sticker, and U.S. localization was done. This creates a problem on the grey market, however, because it’s incredibly difficult to prove the game is authentic when the only difference between the two versions is a sticker. The only listing on eBay is a copy that claims the sticker was removed, going for $149.93 USD. That alone, however, makes the copy indistinguishable from this one going for $15.40 AU. This is one of those games where your best bet is to hope you can strike gold at garage sales.
