Crunchyroll announced yesterday that they had acquired the rights to simulcast Shingeki no Kyojin, better known in the West by its translated name, Attack on Titan. It’s one of the biggest, most anticipated shows of the spring season, based on a manga by Hajime Isayama. The plot revolves around a race of titans that have wiped out humanity to the brink of extinction. The few humans that are left live in a walled city in order to defend themselves, but when a colossal titan comes and kills the main character’s parents, he swears revenge, and that he will wipe out every last titan, Wander from Shadow of the Colossus style.
It’s an engrossing show, and judging by the trailer and first episode, it looks to be absolutely fantastic, with good music, plot, and a unique art style. It is also unique for being only the second show that both Funimation and Crunchyroll will be simulcasting (the first was Sora no Otoshimono); as well as being the first that Funimation had the rights to first, before Crunchyroll licensed them as well. All in all, it’s a good season to be an anime fan. The first two episodes are up on both Crunchyroll and Funimation now, so go check them out below, as well as the trailer.
